Daniel Andrew Kohl (born September 16, 1965) is an American lawyer, political activist, former Wisconsin congressional candidate, and former NBA executive. Kohl is a member of the Kohl Family, one of the wealthiest families in the Midwest and the wealthiest Jewish family from Wisconsin.[1] Kohl was a senior advisor with BakerHostetler's government practice group and was the Democratic nominee for Congress of Wisconsin's 6th congressional district in 2018. In his past roles, he served as the assistant general manager and the Player Personnel Director for the Milwaukee Bucks, and more recently as the VP of Political Affairs and Political Director for J Street and Wisconsin's Director of New Schools Development for the SEED Foundation.

Biography

Daniel Andrew Kohl is from Mequon, Wisconsin and was born on September 16, 1965.[2] His grandfather created the department store Kohl's in 1962, later headed by Kohl's father and uncle. Kohl's uncle, philanthropist Herb Kohl, also once owned the Milwaukee Bucks and is a former United States Senator from Wisconsin.[2][3]

Kohl graduated from Brown University in 1987 with a B.A. in American Civilization, graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1992 with a Doctorate of Law, and earned a Master of Arts in History 1996 from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

In 1992, Kohl joined the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks as a salary cap specialist and college scout. In 1998, he was named the team's assistant director of player personnel, and in 2000 he was promoted to director of player personnel. In 2003 he was promoted to Assistant General Manager. On May 9, 2006, Kohl officially announced that he would be leaving the Bucks.[4]

Kohl was a senior advisor with BakerHostetler's government practice group.[5] In that role, he has represented the Children's Hospital Association and Major League Baseball.[6][7]
