This surveillance camera image of police officer Crimson Elizondo responding to the Uvalde school massacre shows she failed to don body armor, or bring her department issued rifle.

Crimson Elizondo is a police officer in Texas.[1][2]

Several hundred police officers responded, at Robb school in Uvalde, Texas, when a gunman took control of a classroom and started shooting children and teachers.[1][3] Those officers were very widely criticized for failing to storm the classroom, for over an hour.

The School district responded by suspending all of its existing police officers, and hiring new officers, including Elizondo, without realizing that Elizondo, herself, was one of the officers who was present the day of the shooting.[1][3][4]

Elizondo was the first of seven officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety to enter the school.[1] She arrived within two minutes of the 9-1-1 call.[3] However, she failed to don her body armor vest, or bring her department issue rifle.

The Department of Public Safety commenced a disciplinary review of the conduct of Elizondo, and her colleagues, but when she resigned to take her job as a police officer for the school district, the Department of Public Safety closed her review, because as a non-employee she was no longer subject to the discipline.[1]

According to a review of police body camera footage, conducted by AP News, Elizondo told other officers “If my son had been in there, I would not have been outside. I promise you that.”[1][5][4]
