You can be blocked for creating a Bad Wiki-ID

Every contributor here is expected to treat other contributors politely.

The Wiki-ID you just created is problematic. It implies you may not behave politely, because:

  1. It is a misleading name, very similar to a previous name.
    1. Don't pick a new name very similar to one of your previous names! If your previous ID was blocked, you can still edit your User talk: page. Explain there why you think your previous name should be unblocked. If an administrator thinks you are trying to evade your block they won't hesitate to block the new similar ID
    2. Don't pick a new name very similar to one of your previous names because you forgot your password. Create a new ID that is dissimilar to your previous ID, that no one suspects bad faith. Explicitly state your previous history on your new User: page, explicitly stating your previous ID, so no one suspects bad faith.
    3. Don't pick an ID similar to the previous or existing name of your frenemy, or actual enemy. Doing so implies you are trying to confuse people.
  2. Don't create a Wiki-ID similar to a famous person. Don't create a Wiki-ID like User:Jimbo Wales, which I recently blocked.
  3. Don't create Wiki-IDs that are likely to be read as offensive. No swear words.
  • Also, avoid Wiki-IDs like User:Promoting ABC Company, it implies you plan to SPAM. Wikialpha rules allow an article on ABC Company, but it has to be an actual article, something recognizably like an attempt at something like a wikipedia article. It can't look like a press release from ABC Company. It can't be a simple list of unrelated facts about ABC Company.

This should all be common sense.

If your current Wiki-ID was blocked, due to a bad-name, do not try to evade the block. Ping the administrator who blocked you, on your User talk: page.

Please do not create duplicate pages
Welcome to WikiAlpha! Please note that you should use redirects (code: #REDIRECT [[Page name]]).

Do not create duplicate pages by copying and pasting. Please create one page per topic, instead of multiple pages for the same topic.

For example, please create only one page for Ali Khan, not two pages for Ali khan and ALI KHAN.

Creating duplicate pages will not help with search engine rankings and creates unnecessary additional workload for WikiAlpha volunteers.

Thank you.

Capitalization rules - please follow
Welcome to WikiAlpha! Please note that on WikiAlpha, you are required to capitalize names properly, use proper spacing, and use proper punctuation. This is so that the encyclopedia can be organized, searchable, and accurate. Here are some rules that you must follow. Please do not ignore these rules.
  1. Do not use ALL CAPS.
For example, Ali Khan should not be ALI KHAN.
  2. Capitalize people's last names.
For example, Ali Khan should not be Ali khan.
  3. Spaces must be put in between words.
For example, Ali Khan should not be Alikhan.
  4. In addition, please use the actual name of the person or organization, not an online alias or social media ID.
For example, Ali Khan should not be Alikhan1234.

Thank you.

this looked like vandalism

this looked like vandalism

It looks like you took a page someone else started, about a completely different topic, and have tried to hijack it.

Absolutely never do this.

As another contributor wrote, each distinct topic gets just one, count'em on, article. Geo Swan (talk) 23:37, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
