John West

John West (born January 17, 1933) is an American author, banker, and real estate broker and developer.

Early Life and Education

West was born to Paul West (b. 1900; Berlin - d. 1974; London), University of Berlin doctorate and London correspondent of Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, and Elsie (née Richter) West ( b. 1899; London - d. 1970; London), an artist, in Berlin, Germany. He has a brother, Reverend Henry C. West, M.B.E. (b.1928).

In 1950, West graduated from Finchley Catholic Grammar School in London, England.[1]

Career

From 1951 to 1953, West served in Royal Air Force. As an international banker, he worked at Glyn Mills and Co., London (Private Banker), Bank of British West Africa in Kano, Nigeria, United Bank for Africa (UBA) (1958-1977), in Lagos, Nigeria, and Banque National de Paris (Suisse) Geneva (1977-1980).

West served as the former Director of Arts in Public Places, Lee County, Florida, Goodwill Industries, Fort Myers, Florida, Nigerian Football Association. In 2000, he was a candidate for Mayor of Bonita Springs.[2] West is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, UK[3] and the past President of the Rotary Club of Bonita Springs.[4]

Currently, West is working on publishing two books regarding his time in Nigeria; Gullible Travels Berlin to Kano via London, and Nigeria, Tumultuous Years 1958-1977; with a foreword by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and by former Nigerian Ambassador to France, Omotayo Ogunsulire.

Personal life

West married Patricia West in 1960 and divorced in 2002. Together they have two children, Martin J. West (b. 1967; Eastbourne) and Georgina A. West (b. 1970 - d. 2019).
