Intro and Career
John Hannum is an American entrepreneur and founder of PPS Solutions, a professional services firm that provides strategic finance and accounting support to small and growing businesses.
From an early age, John was exposed to the spirit of entrepreneurship through his parents' business ventures. He witnessed firsthand the challenges of running a small business, including balancing cash flow needs, managing inventory and payroll, and competing against larger corporate competitors with more resources. Despite the struggles, John was inspired by his parents' hard work, passion, and dedication in growing their business from a single location to multiple locations over more than a decade.
This early exposure shaped John's interest in business operations, particularly in maintaining order and organization through meticulous documentation. He pursued a career in accounting and finance, working for several companies that experienced significant growth during his tenure, from several million dollars in revenue to several billion. John thrived in these environments, leveraging his skills in organizing chaos and understanding the drivers behind business growth.
After a successful stint growing a public subcontractor, John took a pause in 2020. Recognizing the struggles entrepreneurs faced, especially during the pandemic, he identified a need for strategic finance advice and support tailored to small and growing businesses. However, most entrepreneurs could not afford full-time financial professionals, while many finance experts were monopolized by larger corporations.
Driven by his passion for helping entrepreneurs and his belief that every challenge can be tackled with the right combination of people, processes, and systems, John founded PPS Solutions. The firm aims to level the playing field between entrepreneurs and big businesses by providing financial reporting, metrics, financing assistance, planning, forecasting, and data-driven decision support services.
Through PPS Solutions, John seeks to empower small businesses with the tools and insights necessary for sustainable growth, drawing from his decades of experience in accounting, finance, and business operations. He currently serves as the President and CEO of PPS Solutions, a position he has held since June 2020.
Prior to founding PPS Solutions, John held senior financial leadership roles at companies like Residential Design Services, Clipper Corporation, The Home Depot, HD Supply, and TBC Corporation. Some of his notable achievements include facilitating acquisitions, implementing financial systems and process improvements, streamlining regulatory compliance, and receiving excellence awards for innovative solutions.
