Early life

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Walker was born to Roberta and Gerald Walker Canonsburg. He has been singing since 4. He grew up singing in church choirs and local bands[5][6] and then developed his vocal chops singing in local R&B and blues bands.[7][8] He graduated from Canon McMillian High School and studied at Point Park College (now called Point Park University) in Pittsburgh, PA, for three years.

Career

Walker is an openly gay singer,[9][10] who moved to New York City when he was 19.[2] He competed on It's Showtime at the Apollo, winning with a cover of Oleta Adams’ Get Here in 2001.[5][6][9]

In 2004, Walker was discovered by Junior Vasquez, who signed him to his label, Junior Vasquez Music (JVM). Together, they worked on 2 full-length albums, This Is My Life (JVM) and Flexible (JVM/Centaur), and 7 singles between 2004 and 2008, when the label dissolved.

In 2016, Walker and Tony Moran (another veteran house music DJ/producer) released So Happy,[11] Say Yes (Walker's third and fourth Billboard #1s),[9] and I’m in Love With You.

He landed in the Top Ten on the Billboard dance chart eleven times, with five at #1,[9][12][13][14] including Tell It To My Heart which ranked 41 for 2 weeks in June 2014.

In 2019, Walker performed at Kënga Magjike in Albania. Moreover, he has performed all over the US and overseas in The Netherlands, Israel, Mexico, Albania, Greece, Mykonos, The U.K., and Switzerland.
