Cherish Alexander is an American singer, songwriter and musician.[1] In 2021, Cherish was recognized for her directorial debut, her song and video Change Can Start With Me which won Honorable mention at the Cannes World Film Festival.[2][3] She was also the 2021 Winner for Change Can Start With Me for Miami Film Festival and Venice Short Film Festival.[4]

Early life

Cherish was born in Dallas, Texas. She moved to Hollywood, CA when she was 9 years old. She soon started singing lessons with an opera teacher and taking piano lessons which led her to songwriting. In her teens, she incorporated her love for music by learning guitar and eventually bass guitar.[1]

Career

In 1982, Cherish was Doug Henning's assistant on the NBC special Doug Henning's World of Magic with Bruce Jenner, Billy Crystal and Ann Jillian narrated by Orson Welles and performed at the Magic Castle.[5][6][7] She was managed by Iris Burton and modeled for Mattel, May Co and JCPenney. She was also featured in an international Coca Cola commercial.[8]

In 1982, Cherish was named Worlds Our Little Miss for Our Little Miss Beauty Pageants and traveled all over the world representing the company.[9] In 1990, Cherish was signed to RCA Records and Warner Chappell Publishing to release two albums. First release produced by Michael Jay (Martika, Kylie Minogue) and the second produced by Claude Gaudette (David Foster, Celine Dion, American Me).[1] Her debut album Black Boots and Daisies featured Chynna Phillips and Dave Koz. While at Warner Chappell Publishing, Cherish wrote and published songs with Billy Steinberg, Gregg Alexander, John Shanks, Martin Page and Desmond Child.[10]

In 1992, Cherish co-wrote With All My Heart for Sally Yeh with Tommy Page for a top 10 hit in Hong Kong on Warner Music Group.[1] In 1996, she wrote a song for the benefit album In Harmony with the Homeless on Miramar records. Her song You Don’t Belong Down Here was covered by artist Tiffany.[1] She also had a song featured in Illicit Dreams called World of Love featuring Andrew Stevens and Shannon Tweed.[1]

In 1998, Cherish’s Song GOODBYE was the title song for The Crow: Stairway to Heaven starring Brandon Lee and was an international TV show released by Polygram Television, created by Bryce Zabel.[1] In 1997, Cherish played Lead guitar in two of Cyndi Lauper's music videos, You Don't know and Sisters of Avalon for her album release Sister of Avalon.[1]

In 2000, Cherish wrote a song called In Between for the 2000 film, The Last Producer starring and directed by Burt Reynolds.[1] In 2008, Cherish's song HOLD ON was part of a compilation CD called Abrazos, a benefit CD in honor of fighting cancer which included artists Tyler Hilton and The Bittersweets.[1]

From 2008-2011, Cherish toured playing bass with an all girl Led Zeppelin cover band called Moby Chick.[1] In 2010, Cherish collaborated with Bryce Zabel on the song Need to Know (the Disclosure Song) which was featured numerous times on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.[11][12]

In 2018, Cherish shared the stage with Rita Wilson, Billy Steinberg, Darrel Brown, Loren Gold (the Who) at Segerstrom Arts in Orange County to sing The Bangles Eternal Flame for Rita Wilson's Liner Notes.[1][13]

From 2018 to 2021 Cherish toured and played bass for the 80’s icon Josie Cotton with bandmates Paul Roessler and Kevin Preston of Green Day playing the Microsoft Theatre in DTLA and the Greek Theatre along with other 80's acts Violent Femmes, A Flock of Seagulls, Missing Persons and MC Hammer.[14][15]
