Known for Falsely accusing an associate of rape, falsely claiming to have cancer

Sara Ylen is an American woman from Michigan who has acknowledged falsely claiming to be suffering from cancer.[1][2][3] She has also been convicted of falsely claiming she was raped, in 2001. The man she accused spent nine years in jail before his conviction was overturned on appeal.

Ylen was the beneficiary of local charities, who raised funds on her behalf.[1] Neighbors donated food, services, goods. Public health nurses regularly administered opiates, to help her cope with non-existent cancer pain. Blue Cross is seeking over $121,422.32.

Ylen claimed that her cervical cancer was triggered by the rape she claimed she was a victim of in 2001.[2] In 2012 Ylen accused two more men of rape. The man she accused of raping her in 2001 was convicted in 2003, and released after his appeal triggered a new trial where he was acquitted.
